Then it became known as Sarskoye Selo and later - Tsarskoye. The beginning of the town dates from 1710. From that time the process of palaces and parks creation started. In the 18th - early 20th centuries Tsarskoe Selo was the summer residence of the Emperor's residence. From 1811 to 1843 there was Tsarskoselsky School where A.S. Pushkin studied.

Tsar Peter in 1710presented that plot of land to his second spouse Catherine. The countryside manor has been erected and small town developed nearby. During the 1700s residence name was changed into “Tsarskoye Selo”, which stands for “Tsar’s Village”. Imperial palaces and parks were nationalised afterwards 1917 revolutionary upheaval.

There are several ways to get to Tsarskoye Selo from St. Petersburg. We took adventures path of public transportation. (Metro & local bus). It certainly helps if you can read the signs/stops. Let me start by saying, the beauty of the palace, garden & park will take your breath away.
