Em 1826, ali foi feito um projeto de paisagismo e planificação, e assim o local passou a se chamar Washington Parade Ground, o que valorizou a área. Não muito tempo depois, a praça começou a ser chamada de Washington Square Park. Em 1870, todo esse espaço passou por uma renovação, e muitos elementos dela ainda podem ser vistos hoje em dia.
