19 de jul. de 2016 · The film's enduring popularity is primarily -- if not solely -- due to the sexy chemistry between Bogart and Bacall, especially in the legendary "You know how to whistle, don't you?" scene. The most salutary result of To Have & Have Not was the subsequent Bogart-Bacall marriage, which endured until his death in 1957.
Comments: Lauren Bacall is great, and very beautiful, in her debut. It's the film where Bogie met Bacall, and they're not acting; they're falling in love. And we have Walter Brennan, as Bogie's tipsy pal, with his constant drunk ramblings. Okay script, a bit slow-moving at times. It's not Bogie's or Hawks' best, but still not bad.
The most striking thing about To Have and Have Not is the sizzling on-screen rapport between Bogart and Bacall. An audience would have to be deaf and blind not to notice that the two actors were head-over-heels in love when they made this film - every gesture, ever look, every exchange of dialogue suggests admiration, intimacy and tenderness.

Lauren Bacall's entrance is superstar level. Nonchalantly lighting a cigarette, it's as if the entire screen opens up for her presence. The movie as a whole is pretty great, but you're here for Bogie and Bacall, and holy shit, do they deliver. 582 likes. Review by KYK ★★★★ 5.
