27 de dez. de 2021 · On January 20th, 1793, King Louis XVI of France, having been found guilty of conspiracy with foreign powers by the French National Convention, bid his queen and their children farewell for the last time and was executed by guillotine the following day. Marie Antoinette’s death would come soon enough.
In 1815 Louis XVIII had the remains of his brother Louis XVI and of his sister-in-law, Marie-Antoinette transferred and buried in the Basilica of St Denis, the Royal necropolis of the Kings and Queens of France. Between 1816 and 1826, a commemorative monument, the Chapelle expiatoire, was erected at the location of the former cemetery and church.
4. Re: Marie Anoinette's Death Mask. There's an accurate statue of her (size, as well) in Basilique Saint-Denis, if you're interested. Kirsten Dunst beautiful, she was not, but then you'll see that that's true for most of the royals at Versailles and wherever you see royal portraiture.
Before the guillotine stands Marie Antoinette with Sanson, the same executioner who had dispatched her husband ten months before. Surrounded by soldiers, and tens of thousands of onlookers, she awaits the moment of death. Also on the platform is Marie Antoinette’s confessor.

The question of authenticity isn’t much of a topic, as it’s common knowledge that Marie Tussaud took the cast of Marie Antoinette’s head. The controversy lies in the fact that the wax mask is all that remains of the dead queen.
