  1. Please note – from January 2020 to October 2021 the Combined Authority Committee met jointly with the West of England Joint Committee – this joint meeting was the main member decision-taking meeting. Prior to January 2020, and since October 2021, the Combined Authority Committee and the Joint Committee meet separately on the same day.

  2. The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) was created in 2017 as a statutory body which covers the local authority areas of Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and Bath and North East Somerset. [1] [2] It broadly resembles Avon, but excludes North Somerset because that council opposed joining the combined authority, although they collaborate on some projects.

  3. The combined authority is led by the Mayor of the West of England. It was created on the 9 Feb 2017 combining the West of England Partnership and the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership was formed to help these authorities to work together and co-ordinate high level planning to improve the quality of life of their residents and provide for a growing population [2] .
