Francis Pym was elected as a Conservative MP in 1961 and remained in the House of Commons until being raised to the peerage as Baron Pym in 1987. He worked as a Whip before being appointed Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in 1973. He later served as Defence Secretary and was Foreign Secretary during the Falklands Crisis on 1982.

Francis Pym died on 7th March 2008. He was most recently the Conservative MP for South East Cambridgeshire, and left the Commons on 11 June 1987.
