  1. Oliver Mowat, one of Canada's Fathers of Confederation, was born on the July 22, 1820 at Kingston, Ontario, a community then regarded as the most important town in Upper Canada. He served his province and his country in many important roles before his death on the April 19, 1903 at Government House after some six years as Lieutenant-Governor of the province of Ontario.
