3 de mar. de 2018 · Na Índia, depois de ter visitado as grutas Ellora, a descoberta de locais históricos continuou em Aurangabad, no estado de Maharashtra, com as grutas Ajanta. São 30 rochas escavadas, transformadas em incríveis templos, que terão tido os trabalhos efetuados entre o século II a.C. e IV d.C.
Ajanta é um conjunto de cavernas com pinturas rupestres de inspiração budista em Maharashtra que remontam ao século II a.C. As grutas, comissionadas pelos Vakatakas , são um testemunho sem interrupção da história religiosa do budismo , durante um período de 700 anos.

Ajanta Caves play an important role in understanding the history of early Indian art and culture. And they’re significant for several reasons. 1. Artistic significance. Ajanta Caves Aurangabad is considered a masterpiece of Buddhist art. They’re a testament to the skill and creativity of the artists who created them.
Ajanta’s art recounts the life of Lord Buddha, including his previous earthly experiences, and the Jataka tales. Cave 26, seen here, is a chaitya, and features a sculpture of Lord Buddha in his 80th year. Above, celestial beings are depicted rejoicing Lord Buddha’s impending arrival, and below, his disciples are shown mourning the departure.
