It’s too long, overwrought, often silly, bordering dangerously on the edge of camp, and yet it remains mostly entertaining, thanks to the professionalism of director Vincent Sherman, screenwriters Julius and Philip Epstein, cinematographer Ernest Haller, and much of the cast.
