This comprehensive and insightful book brings scientific rigor to the problems of reconstructing the Pharos Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and understanding how it functioned as the archetypal lighthouse in antiquity, when it was described as a “second Sun”.
Several lighthouses were constructed along the coast of Alexandria and eastwards in Rosetta, Damietta, Cape Bourlos and Port Said to facilitate the navigation of trade and navy vessels to and from Egyptian ports.

The Lighthouse of Alexandria was a famous lighthouse constructed on the island of Pharos in Egypt during the reign of Ptolemy I Soter in the 3rd century BC. It was one of the tallest man-made structures of its time at around 100-140 meters tall.
