Lenoir County (/ l ɛ ˈ n ɔːr / le-NOR) is a county in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, its population was 55,122. Its county seat is Kinston, located on the Neuse River, across which the county has its territory. Lenoir County comprises the Kinston, NC Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Lenoir County’s County Seat, Kinston, was established in 1762 as “Kingston” and today is among the oldest cities in the state of North Carolina. The first court house in what is now Lenoir County was erected in 1779.
Lenoir County, NC is centrally located in eastern NC approximately 75 miles east of Raleigh (our state’s capital) and 75 miles west of Morehead City (one of our seaports and the beautiful crystal coast). Our county is a blend of agriculture and manufacturing.
Lenoir County, located in North Carolina's Coastal Plain region, was formed from no-longer-extant Dobbs County in 1791. It was named for General William Lenoir, a prominent Revolutionary War hero, Speaker of the State Senate, and trustee of the University of North Carolina.
