Nikolaos Plastiras ( Greek: Νικόλαος Πλαστήρας; 4 November 1883 [1] – 26 July 1953) was a Greek general and politician, who served twice as Prime Minister of Greece. A distinguished soldier known for his personal bravery, he became famous as "The Black Rider" during the Greco-Turkish War of 1919–1922, where he commanded the 5/42 Evzone Regiment.
Nikolaos Plastiras was an accomplished military man, an honest politician and an exemplary person, beloved by the people. The artificial lake of Tavropos river, that he first envisioned, was named Lake Plastira in his honor. Return.
Nikólaos Plastíras, a staunch supporter of Venizélos and the mastermind behind the 1922 coup, sought to restore Venizélos to power by force. His coup was unsuccessful and was subsequently followed by an assassination attempt on Venizélos.
