The Gun Quarter is a district of the city of Birmingham, England, which was for many years a centre of the world's gun-manufacturing industry, specialising in the production of military firearms and sporting guns.
The term 'gun quarter' seems to be a much more modern term than the quarter itself, the district evolved over time through amenity; there were many processes in the making of a single weapon, and each process would be conducted by different skilled workers in separate premises.

At the beginning of the 18th century there was a small concentration of gun makers in the industrial area of Digbeth. During the century, however, the trade gradually moved to the north-west fringe of the town largely on the Weaman estate around Whittall Street in the district now known as the Gun Quarter.
28 de ago. de 2023 · The Gun Quarter in Birmingham was once the world’s largest centre for gun making. The trade began in the early 17th Century, originally springing up in the mills in Digbeth, before moving to the current location north of the city centre.
By the 1820s there were several thousand people employed in the gun trade, with most working in an area lying between the foot of Steelhouse Lane and Aston and around St Mary’s church in Whittall St. This area became known as the Gun Quarter.
A commemorative plaque in the Gun Quarter claims that around this time Birmingham was the “foremost arms producer in the world”, the town’s closest rival being London. By the end of the 18th century the Gun Quarter had become a thriving gun-manufacturing community.
