The Dark Elves (known as Svartálfar by the Ancient Norse, Älfeneel or Harudheeniksel by the Dark Elves themselves) are among the oldest known species in existence, hailing from the realm Svartalfheim. They are one of the mortal enemies of the Asgardians, the other being the Frost Giants.
Elves of Asgard Dark-Elves. The Dark Elves are ruled over by Malekith the Accursed, and the most powerful amongst their ranks was Algrim the Strong. However, Algrim was betrayed by Malekith in a bid to kill Thor. Algrim was dropped into lava and though he survived, he was critically wounded.
In Norse mythology, Dökkálfar ("Dark Elves") and Ljósálfar ("Light Elves") are two contrasting types of elves; the dark elves dwell within the earth and have a dark complexion, while the light elves live in Álfheimr, and are "fairer than the sun to look at".

Asgardians have a reputation as peacekeepers throughout the Nine Realms. The first known instance of Asgard's maintenance of intergalactic peace was the First Dark Elf Conflict during the Convergence of the Realms.
Svartalfheim was a dark world home to the Dark Elves. Their leader, Malekith , wished to use the Aether to destroy the Nine Worlds , but they were stopped by an Asgardian army led by their king Bor , who hid the Aether in an unknown realm.
