A síndrome da morte súbita do lactente (SMSL) ou síndrome da morte súbita infantil (SMSI), conhecida internacionalmente pela sigla SIDS (sudden infant death syndrom) é o óbito inesperado de crianças com menos de um ano de vida. [ 1] .
Resumo: A SIDS (Síndrome Infantil da Defunção Súbita) é uma entidade pouco estudada em nosso meio, porém representa a principal causa de morte em menores de um ano nos países industrializados. É provavelmente de origem multifatorial, tendo como principal fator de risco a posição de dormir em decúbito ventral.
