Six weeks later, on Saturday, June 1, 1985 Samuel Adams Boston Lager is voted “Best Beer in America” at the Great American Beer Festival. Samuel Adams passes the Reinheitsgebot, also known as the German Beer Purity Law or the Bavarian Purity Law, and becomes the first American beer sold in Germany.
