Joseph Fielding Smith served as the 10th President of the Church from 1970 until his death in 1972. He was born in 1876 to Julina Lambson Smith and Joseph F. Smith, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles who later became the 6th President of the Church.
Joseph Fielding Smith Sr. (November 13, 1838 – November 19, 1918) was an American religious leader who served as the sixth president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). He was a nephew of Joseph Smith, founder of the Latter Day Saint movement, and the last LDS Church president who had personally known him.
He became President of the Church on January 23, 1970, at the age of 93. As one of the Church’s most prolific writers, Joseph Fielding Smith’s numerous books and articles helped educate generations of Latter-day Saints about the history and doctrine of the Church.
