12 de jan. de 2019 · Pediatric anesthesia has evolved as a subspecialty because the needs of infants and young children are fundamentally different from those of adults: they differ anatomically, physiologically, pharmacologically, emotionally and socially.
The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine's subspecialty-trained pediatric anesthesiologists provide pediatric anesthesiology services for patients undergoing surgical procedures, consultations in respiratory care, hemodynamic monitoring and acute post-operative pain therapy.
We provide general anesthesia care for all pediatric surgical procedures. We also offer spinal anesthesia, procedural sedation, acute and chronic pain management, palliative care, extensive education and training, and a productive research program.

This is given to temporarily stop the feeling of pain in one part of the body. Your child stays awake with a local anesthetic. For minor surgery, a local anesthetic can be given by injection to the site. If a large area needs to be numbed, or an injection will not go deep enough, regional anesthesia may be used.
