I think Oliver and Melanie both denied that the songs are about their relationship. I’ve heard that they’ve said so in interviews at least (that the songs are NOT about Oliver Tree) but I’m not entirely sure.

Oliver Tree Nickell is an American singer, songwriter, musician, producer, and filmmaker from Santa Cruz, California. He is Melanie Martinez's ex-boyfriend. He was included in the October 2019 issue of Alternative Press, which Melanie is the guest editor for.
Oliver and Melanie had been friends for a while and had multiple interactions over social media predating their relationship.
On September 30th, 2019, he and Melanie posted photos from their upcoming Alternative Press interview together, later confirming they were dating.
In July 2020, Melanie unfollowed Oliver on Instagram and they both deleted all the photos of them together from their Instagram accounts.
On May 12th, 2021, Melanie posted a story on Instagram confirming that she and Oliver had broken up, but that they are both on good terms. Oliver reposted the story an hour later.
On August 2th, 2023, Melanie posted an Instagram story stating that she doesn’t want anyone showing hate towards Oliver Tree as some fans had been hateful. She stated:

•Oliver called Melanie his "alien girl" which is likely a reference to his song and extended play, Alien Boy.
•Oliver voted once on an Instagram poll made by a fan account saying that Melanie is pregnant, due to the fan freaking out over a bad angle of Melanie's stomach in a then-recent picture.
•As a joke, Oliver asked Melanie to marry him in the last question of his interview with her for the Alternative Press magazine issue.
•Oliver was working on a graphic novel during the length of his relationship with Melanie. On one of the pages, a little girl with half-split hair dressed in a pink overall with a heart on the middle that has K-12 embroidered on it is depicted, this was later altered after their breakup.
•On January 12th, 2022, Oliver released a single titled "Cowboys Don't Cry", accompanied by a music video. The lyrics of the song use a carousel as a metaphor to a relationship, similar to Melanie's hit single, "Carousel". With this, Oliver soon announced the Cowboy Tears Tour. In the post of the tour, an actor wears a split colored wig, similar to Melanie's invariable hairstyle, although they do not wear this wig in the music video.
•A leaker has mentioned that him and Melanie have an unrelased collab, however it's unconfirmed if it exists or not.
