8 de mar. de 2019 · On 1 August 1937, thousands of people lined the streets of Paris to mourn the death of photojournalist Gerda Taro (1910–1937): a 26-year-old Jewish émigré from Leipzig, Germany. Taro had died in Spain, while covering the Battle of Brunete, during the second year of the Spanish Civil War.

Gerta Pohorylle conhecida profissionalmente como Gerda Taro (Estugarda, 1 de agosto de 1910 – Brunete, 26 de julho de 1937) foi fotógrafa, jornalista e anarquista alemã de origem judaica. É lembrada como sendo a primeira mulher fotojornalista a morrer enquanto fazia cobertura de guerra.
Although Taro's photographs of the Spanish Civil War have been overshadowed by those of Capa and other photographers, her pictures are effective portrayals of individuals at war. Their graphic simplicity and emotional power make her small body of work a memorable chronicle of a complex war.
