Ironically, Mussolini himself would meet a similar fate when he was reportedly executed by firing squad on April 28, 1945. Benito Mussolini overthrew the Italian government and asserted fascism as the country's dictator.

He was captured by pro-Mussolini partisans and Germans in northern Italy. On Mussolini’s orders, he was brought to trial on a charge of treason, found guilty, and executed by a shot in the back.
