In October 2013, after it was decided to reshoot the opening scenes of the film, Ella Purnell, who originally auditioned for the role of Aurora, replaced Eisley in the role of teen Maleficent. Purnell's casting was personally approved by Jolie, [10] although they never met in person during the film's production.
