O ator Dick Sargent então foi contratado para substituir York, permanecendo no papel de James Stephens (Darrin, no original, em inglês) até a série ser cancelada, em 1972.

York came into the picture after Richard Crenna of The Real McCoys (1957) fame turned the role down. Of course, Sargent wound up replacing York as Darrin in 1969, after York suffered a seizure on the set and was rushed to the hospital.

Then suddenly, he was replaced by Dick Sargent, who played the role for the show’s final three seasons. The reason was even more sad than York being fired or wanting to leave the show.
