It is known to Hawaiians as Lēʻahi ( pronounced [leːˈʔɐhi] ), which is most likely derived from lae (browridge, promontory) plus ʻahi (tuna) because the shape of the ridgeline resembles the shape of a tuna 's dorsal fin.
