The current flag of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is a plain white flag with the black words of the shahada in the centre. The white stands for "the (Islamic Movement of Taliban's) purity of faith and government"; the flag incorporated the shahada , the Islamic declaration of faith, after 1997.
On January 29, 2002, the government adopted the current flag. Its modified coat of arms includes the Arabic inscriptions “Afghanistan” and “There is no deity but God; Muhammad is the messenger of God.”. The coat of arms still includes a mosque, two flags, and sheaves of wheat.

Flag of Afghanistan. Flag used by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. The recognized flag of Afghanistan continues to be that of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, although the Taliban flag, which was used from 1997-2001 until their collapse, has reemerged under the name of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan as of 2021.
