Sixteenth-century and later college gardens, pleasure grounds and small park. DESCRIPTION. LOCATION, AREA, BOUNDARIES, LANDFORM, SETTING. Magdalen College lies close to the centre of Oxford at the bottom, east end of the High Street, occupying the land on the east side of Longwall Street.
The College will be closed to all visitors on 27 September, October 6th and 20 December – 31 December, all dates inclusive, but see below for New Year’s Day 2025). Despite being in the centre of Oxford, Magdalen is teeming with flora and fauna, including kingfishers, and otters.

Magdalen College seeks to offer a sustainable refuge for nearby fauna and wildlife. These sanctuaries host diverse habitats supporting indigenous flora and fauna and nurturing local biodiversity.
Magdalen (pronounced ‘Maudlen’) has some of the most beautiful buildings in Oxford, new as well as ancient. It is set in 100 acres of grounds which include the deer park and Addison’s riverside walk.

Magdalen College and Oxford Botanic Garden Combined Ticket. Joint tickets for Magdalen College and the Oxford Botanic Garden are available at either location for: Adults: £15. Concessions: £13. Tickets must be used at the site of purchase on the day, but will remain valid for one visit to the other venue for 12 months from the date of purchase.
