Soft Machine are an English jazz-rock band from Canterbury. Formed in mid-1966, the group originally consisted of drummer and vocalist Robert Wyatt , guitarists Daevid Allen and Larry Nowlin, bassist and vocalist Kevin Ayers , and keyboardist Mike Ratledge .
