He wrote his first thesis on the obstetric fistula and was later promoted to professor for his thesis on the efficacy of hysterotomy in treating uterine fibromas. 1
The renowned French surgeon and the father of French gynecology, Samuel-Jean Pozzi, was born in 1846 at Bergerac in southwestern France. After completing his preliminary studies locally, Pozzi began to study medicine in Paris in 1864. He volunteered as a medic in the Franco-Prussian war and received his doctorate in 1873.
