We usually do it in question forms: Normal sentence: You are tired. (The subject is 'you'. It's before the verb 'are'.) Question form: Are you tired?
29 de dez. de 2010 · Inversion of subject and verb. In English, the usual order of words in a sentence is subject + verb + object. Sometimes certain adverbs come at the beginning of the sentence. This order is then inverted and the verb comes before the subject. Study the following sentences.
Inversion happens when we reverse (invert) the normal word order of a structure, most commonly the subject-verb word order. For example, a statement has the subject (s) before the verb (v), but to make question word order, we invert the subject and the verb, with an auxiliary (aux) or modal verb (m) before the subject (s): [S] She [V] sings.

We use the first conditional to talk about future situations we believe are possible. To invert first conditional sentences, we replace if with the auxiliary verb shouldand change the verb into the infinitive. This makes the situation seem a little less likely. It is often used to make a polite request or offer.
We use the second conditional to talk about situations that we consider unlikely or impossible in reality. To invert second conditional sentences, we replace if with were and change the verb form to to+ infinitive. The third conditional is used to imagine a change in a past situation and how things would have been different in the past as a result. To invert third conditional sentences, we remove if and invert the subject and the auxiliary verb had.
