Victoria University (VU or Vic Uni) is a public research university based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is a dual-sector university, providing courses in both higher education and technical and further education (TAFE).
History. The University of Victoria is the oldest post-secondary institution in British Columbia. First established in 1903 as Victoria College, an affiliated college of McGill University, it gained full autonomy and degree-granting status through a charter on July 1, 1963.
We are making all Victoria University campuses and spaces welcoming, inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. Our teaching achievements VU achieved university status in 1991, but our preceding institutions date back to 1916.
History & traditions. The university received degree-granting status in 1963. The origins of UVic, however, can be traced back to 1903 and the establishment of Victoria College, our predecessor institution.
THE first step towards the founding of Victoria University was taken in 1829 at the Conference of the Episcopal Methodist Church of Canada.
