Dustin James "DJ" Walterson is the titular main protagonist of Sony Animation’s first full-length animated feature film, Monster House. He is a 12-year-old boy who is known for spying on Horace Nebbercracker and his house through a telescope. He acts, and is treated, like a younger boy and is often thought to be crazy. He is voiced and mo-capped by Mitchell Musso.
Not much is known about DJ's background, only that he had strained relationship with Elizabeth "Zee", his babysitter whom his parents Joe Walterson and Elena Walterson hired to take care of him while they're gone, and became the best friend to Charles "Chowder" at some point in the school. He is also a bright young boy who came to believe that there's something more in Mr. Nebbercracker's habit of taking items that ended up in his lawn and scaring away any children who get too close to his home and will do anything to get the bottom of it. Little did he knows how right he is...
DJ first appeared witnessing Mr. Nebbercracker confiscating a little girl's tricycle, much to Mrs. Walters' chagrin. Mr. and Mrs. Walters inform DJ that they will leave town for the weekend for a dentist's convention and have called Zee to take care of him in their stead. Chowder comes to hang out with him and asks if DJ is going trick or treating, but DJ says that he is not, as he thinks he has gotten too grown up, much to Chowder's shock. As DJ scored two goals in the basketball hoop, Chowder tries to make a score, but the ball bounces off the metal bar and hits Chowder in the head. DJ inspects Chowder, as he thinks he has gotten hurt. To his annoyance, however, Chowder is not hurt at all, and says that he is acting like a dork.

He has short black hair, brown eyes and wears a red, black and white long-sleeved striped shirt.

•DJ is almost like Harry Potter from the Harry Potter series: both are dark-haired, skinny, resourceful, serious-minded, and rational.
•In the early draft of the film, DJ and Chowder are originally going to get bullied by the two bullies, Ryan and Cameron. He will lure them to the house on purpose for revenge. This was scrapped because the studio thinks it will be too dark and possibly not to teach kids to do bad choices in real life.
•DJ, Chowder and Mr. Nebbercracker are the only three male main characters in both movie and game.
•According to the Nintendo GameCube's concept art gallery, DJ was originally going to fight the mannequin instead of Jenny, but it was scrapped for unknown reason and was replaced by Jenny in the final version of the game.
