The Grekov Odesa Art School (Ukrainian: Одеське художнє училище імені Митрофана Грекова; abbreviated ОХУ) is a secondary education institution in Odesa, Ukraine. It is the oldest arts school in the country.
The Grekov Odessa Art School is the oldest and one of the more renowned school of arts in Ukraine. It was founded as "Odessa Painting School", on the 30th of May 1865. It was not a private institution, but an open Society of Fine Arts under the patronage of wealthy people of Odessa and Russian Empire.
Born in a Cossack family, at the age of 15, he went to study painting, first at the Odessa Art School (with Kiriyak Kostandi), then 5 years later, after successfully passing the exams, he ended up at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, where he studied with Ilya Repin and Franz Roubaud.
