The Pink Panther (1963), the original film of the series, centered on the Phantom/Sir Charles Lytton, portrayed by David Niven. It is set in the ski resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo . Peter Sellers's performance was so popular that the resulting series was built on the Clouseau character, rather than the Phantom character.
