Strom C. Thacker is the seventh president of Pitzer College. A highly regarded college administrator and political scientist, Thacker took office on July 1, 2023. He came to Pitzer from Union College in Schenectady, New York, where he served as a professor and dean of the faculty and vice president for academic affairs.

Dr. Thacker succeeds the College’s sixth president, Dr. Melvin L. Oliver, who retired in June 2022 after serving Pitzer for six years.

Strom C. Thacker ’88, who graduated from Pomona with a degree in international relations, cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, becomes president of Pitzer College on July 1. On the same day, Harriet B. Nembhard CMC ’90 becomes president of Harvey Mudd College.
