Rice Lake is a city in Barron County in northwest Wisconsin, United States, on the shore of the lake with the same name. The city is a commercial and tourist center for the surrounding rural areas. [6] As of the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 9,040.

The local newspaper, known today as The Chronotype, began printing on September 8, 1874; the same year, the first school here in Rice Lake, opened. Rice Lake is well known for its surrounding, vast expanse of trail networks – they are perfect for skiing, hiking, biking, and snowmobiling.

Rice Lake is located in the Northwoods, about 48 miles northwest of Chippewa Falls, in Barron County. The Chippewa and other American Indian groups called the area home, trapping and gathering wild rice in the lakes and bogs until the 1880s.
