  1. The muon neutrino is an elementary particle which has the symbol ν μ and zero electric charge. Together with the muon it forms the second generation of leptons, hence the name muon neutrino. It was discovered in 1962 by Leon Lederman, Melvin Schwartz and Jack Steinberger. The discovery was rewarded with the 1988 Nobel Prize in Physics.

  2. O neutrino é uma partícula subatômica sem carga elétrica e que interage com outras partículas apenas por meio da gravidade e da força nuclear fraca (duas das quatro forças fundamentais da Natureza, ao lado da eletromagnética e da força nuclear forte ).

There are three known types (flavors) of neutrinos: electron neutrino ν e, muon neutrino ν μ, and tau neutrino ν τ, named after their partner leptons in the Standard Model (see table at right). The current best measurement of the number of neutrino types comes from observing the decay of the Z boson.

  4. Pauli's neutrino is now identified as the electron neutrino, while the second neutrino is identified as the muon neutrino. Electron antineutrino. The electron neutrino has a corresponding antiparticle, the electron antineutrino (ν e), which differs only in that some of its properties have equal magnitude but opposite sign.
