The Hockey East Association, also known as Hockey East, is a college ice hockey conference which operates entirely in New England. It participates in the NCAA's Division I as a hockey-only conference.

The 2020–21 Hockey East men's season was the 37th season of play for Hockey East and took place during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season. The start of the regular season was delayed until on November 20, 2020 and conclude on April 10, 2021. Massachusetts won its first national championship.
The 2021–22 Hockey East men's season was the 38th season of play for Hockey East and took place during the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season. The regular season began on October 2, 2021, and concluded on March 5, 2022. The conference tournament ended on March 19 with Massachusetts winning the championship.
The 2022–23 Hockey East men's season was the 39th season of play for Hockey East and took place during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season. The season began on October 1, 2022 and concluded on April 6, 2023.

The East Division of the National Hockey League existed from 1967 until 1974 when the league realigned into two conferences of two divisions each. The division was reformed for the 2020–21 NHL season (and branded as the MassMutual East Division for sponsorship reasons) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Beginning in 2020-21, the Hockey Commissioners Association agreed all leagues that utilize shootouts will use the same system point system to calculate standings after the NCAA mandated 3-on-3 overtime for all games.
