Generaloberst est un grade d'officier général de l' armée allemande, de l'armée autrichienne et de l'armée de la Russie impériale. De 1942 à 1945, il a également été utilisé dans la Schutzstaffel (la SS) en complément du grade attribué par cette organisation ( Oberst-Gruppenführer ), dans le but de préciser celui-ci.
The rank originates from the Old European System and it is particularly associated with Germany, where historically general officer ranks were one grade lower than in the Commonwealth and the United States, and Generaloberst was a rank above full General, but below Generalfeldmarschall.
