It lies on the coast of the Bay of Biscay, 20 km (12 miles) from the France–Spain border.

La Comarca de San Sebastián (en euskera: « Donostialdea »): Comprende la capital, San Sebastián y las poblaciones de su entorno. Aquí se concentra casi la mitad de la población de la provincia con localidades como Hernani, Lasarte-Oria, Pasajes y Rentería.
