The character was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, and debuted in the 27th issue of the comic book Detective Comics on March 30, 1939. In the DC Universe continuity, Batman is the alias of Bruce Wayne, a wealthy American playboy, philanthropist, and industrialist who resides in Gotham City.
Created by writer Bill Finger and artist Bob Kane, Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (1939) and is the secret identity of Bruce Wayne, who, after witnessing the murder of his parents as a child, trains himself to physical and intellectual perfection and dons a bat-themed costume in order to fight crime.
The Batman was nominated for three awards at the 95th Academy Awards, and received numerous other accolades. The film is intended to launch a Batman shared universe, and will be followed by two sequels, with The Batman – Part II set for release on October 2, 2026.
