Argentan est une commune française, située dans le département de l’Orne en Normandie, traversée par l'Orne. Elle est peuplée de 13 291 habitants [Note 1]. Sous-préfecture de l’Orne, elle est le chef-lieu de l’arrondissement d'Argentan. C’est la troisième ville du département la plus peuplée après Alençon et Flers.
