Charles Dudley Warner. (1829—1900) Quick Reference. (1829–1900), was born in Massachusetts, reared in western New York, and graduated from Hamilton College (1851). Determining upon a literary and journalistic career, he made his home in Hartford, Conn., and after 1861 was editor of the Courant, although frequently occupied in other matters.
The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today is a novel by Mark Twain and Charles Dudley Warner first published in 1873. It satirizes greed and political corruption in post- Civil War America. Although not one of Twain's best-known works, it has appeared in more than 100 editions since its original publication.
