Edward Lear (12 May 1812 – 29 January 1888) was an English artist, illustrator, musician, author and poet, who is known mostly for his literary nonsense in poetry and prose and especially his limericks, a form he popularised.

Biography. Lear was born into a middle-class family in the village of Holloway, the 21st child of Ann and Jeremiah Lear.
Edward Lear (Highgate, Londres, 12 de Maio de 1812 — San Remo, 29 de Janeiro de 1888) foi um pintor e escritor inglês. Em 1831 começou a trabalhar como ilustrador para a Zoological Society of London e depois para o Museu Britânico. Em 1835 passou a pintar também paisagens de modo minucioso.
