Isaac Robert Cruikshank, sometimes known as Robert Cruikshank (27 September 1789 – 13 March 1856), was a caricaturist, illustrator and portrait miniaturist, the less well-known brother of George Cruikshank, both sons of Isaac Cruikshank.

His ‘Random Shots’ were priced at 3 pence (roughly 85p today). The first recorded case of cholera in England occurred in Sunderland, 23 October 1831.

In Robert Cruikshank’s Random Shots (No 2) A Cholera Patient the artist turns his attention to the impoverished public and extends his ridicule of the medical management of cholera. The terrified and emaciated patient is perched next to a table propped up with human bones and laden with the standard treatment.

On display in the exhibition Cats on the Page at the British Library is the pamphlet The Pretty, playful, tortoise-shell cat published in 1817. The illustrator is probably the caricaturist and portrait painter Isaac Robert Cruikshank, often known professionally as just Robert Cruikshank.
