Otto Eckmann by Lovis Corinth. Otto Eckmann (19 November 1865 – 11 June 1902) was a German painter and graphic artist. He was a prominent member of the "floral" branch of Jugendstil. He created the Eckmann typeface, which was based on Japanese calligraphy and medieval font design.

Otto Eckmann (* 19. November 1865 in Hamburg; † 11. Juni 1902 in Badenweiler) war ein deutscher Maler, Grafiker und Typograf des Jugendstils. Er nutzte das Monogramm „OE“. Aktie der Deutsch-Ueberseeischen Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft über 1.000 Mark, ausgestellt in Berlin im Juli 1906.
Pintor y artista gráfico alemán, Otto Eckmann fue uno de los miembros prominentes de la rama «floral» de Jugendstil (el Art Nouveau alemán). Y como buen modernista, su arte tocó todos los campos que pudo, desde la pintura clásica al diseño de azulejos, pasando por el diseño de tipografías (muy conocida la que lleva su nombre).
Biography. German designer, illustrator and painter. He studied at the Kunst- und Gewerbeschule in Nuremberg and from 1885 attended the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich. His early paintings were naturalistic landscapes, but around 1890, he shifted towards Symbolism.
