Philippa Jane Boyens is a New Zealand film writer who co-wrote the screenplay for Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy alongside Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, for which the trio won an Oscar at the 76th Academy Awards in 2004. She talks about her role as a screenwriter in many Extended Edition documentaries such as J.R.R. Tolkien - Creator of Middle-earth and From Book to Script.
She also worked in the making of Jackson's King Kong (2005).
Between 2012 and 2014, Boyens wrote and served as Co-Producer on The Hobbit film trilogy.
She has two children: Calum Gittins, who played Haleth in The Two Towers, and a daughter Phoebe Gittins, who played a hobbit in the first trilogy and is also a writer.
