Edelman, received the 1972 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for his contribution to the determination of the chemical structure of an antibody.

He devoted his whole scientific life to the study of the immune system. In 1972 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, jointly with Gerald M. Edelman.
