Samuel Parris (1653 – February 27, 1720) was the Puritan minister in Salem Village, Massachusetts, during the Salem witch trials. Accusations by Parris and his daughter against an enslaved woman precipitated an expanding series of witchcraft accusations.
- Como começou. Tudo começou em fevereiro, quando a filha de 9 anos do Reverendo de Salem, Samuel Parris, ficou doente. Mas ela apresentava sintomas esquisitos: contorcia-se de dor, gritava e alegava estar sendo picada por insetos.
- As "culpadas" Pressionadas por líderes religiosos locais, que atribuíam tudo a obras do diabo, as meninas culparam três mulheres pela doença: Tituba, uma escrava; Sarah Good, uma mendiga; e Sarah Osborne, uma idosa pobre.
- O julgamento. Em março, deu-se início ao julgamento das três. Tituba confessou que recebeu uma visita do diabo e que havia se tornado sua serva, provavelmente por acreditar que isso a livraria da forca.
- Paranoia. Isso foi o suficiente para gerar paranoia. Mais acusações começaram a surgir e até que uma garota de 4 anos foi presa por alguns meses em meio aos julgamentos.
