Grand Ayatollah Hussein-Ali Montazeri (Persian: حسینعلی منتظری [hosei̯næˈliː-e montæzeˈɾiː] pronunciation ⓘ; 24 September 1922 – 19 December 2009) was an Iranian Shia Islamic theologian, Islamic democracy advocate, writer and human rights activist.
