Thomas Horsfield (May 12, 1773 – July 24, 1859) was an American physician and naturalist who worked extensively in Indonesia, describing numerous species of plants and animals from the region. He was later a curator of the East India Company Museum in London.

1 de set. de 2012 · Born on the 12th of May 1773 in Bethlehem, a small town in eastern Pennsylvania in the then British North America, Thomas Horsfield belonged to the Moravian sect of Christianity. From an early age he showed interest in all branches of biology, especially botany.
1801 - Horsfield applied as a surgeon with the Dutch Colonial Army in Batavia. 1811 - Horsfield began to work under Lieutenant-Governor Thomas Stamford Raffles. 1826 - Horsfield was appointed assistant secretary of the Zoological Society of London.
